Carol McCray
Carol McCray began her esteemed teaching career in 1972 at Gallistel Elementary School on Chicago's South Side, marking the onset of a lifelong dedication to education and community service.
She earned her Bachelor of Science in Education from Chicago State Teacher’s College in 1972, followed by a Master of Science in Education with a focus on Curriculum & Instruction from Chicago State University in 1994. Continuing her academic pursuits, she obtained a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership and Administration from the same institution.
Carol honed her teaching skills at various institutions, including Gallistel Elementary School (1972-1977), Burnham Elementary School (1978-1989), and Bennett Elementary School. At Bennett Elementary, she served as a classroom teacher (1989-1993) and later as an Instructional Coordinator (1993-2009).
During her tenure at Bennett Elementary School, Carol assumed multifaceted roles, including Teacher/Principal Liaison, Afterschool Coordinator, and Summer School Coordinator. She played a pivotal role in Student Program Development and supervised students in the University of Illinois Principal Scholar’s Program.
In addition to her contributions to formal education, she established the Creative Learning Systems Tutoring Center, addressing children's educational needs for two decades.
Grounded in her firm conviction that all children can learn, Mrs. McCray has been a steadfast advocate for inclusive education throughout her career.
Beyond the classroom, Carol actively engages with her community through various roles at Fellowship M.B. Church. She has served as a Sunday School Teacher, Children’s Ministry Counselor, and Children’s Ministry Director, embodying her commitment to nurturing the next generation beyond the confines of the school setting."
